Our NetworkCovering metropolitan Sydney and regional NSWOur Alliance now includes twelve clinical research sites across NSW.
NECTA's administrative and professional functions are based at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research Our academic cancer centres have all been purpose-built and opened in the last five years with state-of-the-art clinical cancer research facilities. By collaborating to form NECTA, the consortium can provide access to:

Chris o'Brien Lifehouse
Chris O’Brien Lifehouse has the first, purpose-built cancer-only clinical trials facility in New South Wales. Chris O’Brien Lifehouse has the biggest Phase I clinical trials program for solid tumours, and the largest overall cancer clinical trials activity in the State. The majority of our clinicians hold higher research degrees and most are co-appointed at Sydney University. This feeds into our active and exciting clinical trials program which enables our public and private patients to benefit from early access to the world’s newest medications, treatments, therapies and surgeries.

THE KINGHORN CANCER CENTRE (St VINCENT'S HOSPITAL)
The vision of The Kinghorn Cancer Centre is to realise the promise of innovative personalised medicine for people affected by cancer. As a Centre focusing on translational research and personalised cancer care, our mission is to align world-class cancer research - both in the lab and the clinic - with rapid translation to improve outcomes for cancer patients by (i) building world-class facilities and strategic collaborations to enhance advances in science that translate into improved cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention (ii) developing integrated, multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional approaches to cancer research and patient care to reduce the impact of cancer in the community including the development of early phase clinical trials and (iii) establishing world-class educational and training programs to develop high quality researchers and clinicians to optimise translational outcomes. Bringing together researchers from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and clinicians onto a single site, The Kinghorn Cancer Centre fosters laboratory research directly driven by clinical challenges, “a bedside to bench” model, and enables research findings to be rapidly translated into clinical application for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer, with the prospect of improving cancer outcomes and access to clinical trials for all Australians.

SCIENTIA CLINICAL RESEARCH
Scientia Clinical Research is a world-class state-of-the-art facility for Phase I and later-phase trials in oncology, haematology and across other disciplines, including first into-human and first-into-patient studies. Scientia is located within the Bright Alliance Building along with the Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre and Sydney Children’s Hospital. It is also co-located in a major research precinct with Prince of Wales Hospital, Royal Hospital for Women, UNSW and the Lowy Cancer Research Centre and is thus in a prime position to translate preclinical research into early phase clinical trials to enhance patient care. Scientia has an on-site laboratory and pharmacy and will be the first facility in Australia to use the electronic real-time study data collection system, TrialOne. We will have our first studies open to recruitment in mid-2017 and are currently growing our team of investigators.

CALVARY MATER NEWCASTLE
BLACKTOWN AND WESTMEAD HOSPITALS
The Medical Oncology Clinical Trials Units in the Western Sydney Local Health District was established in 1987 and there are now 2 large units at both Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals. Over that time, the Unit has undertaken over 500 trials in thousands of patients using cytotoxic chemotherapy, antibody therapies, vaccines and more recently small molecule targeted therapies. We also led the development of immunotherapy.
A Phase 1 Programme using a B-RAF inhibitor in malignant melanoma began in 2009 and the Phase 1 trials program has rapidly expanded over time.
The unit has a close working relationship with the University of Sydney and University of Western Sydney, which allows for many translational research opportunities. All our investigators have a background in research including higher research degrees. Western Sydney is the largest health service in Sydney and 2000 new patients with a cancer diagnosis are seen in the service per year.
